Dead Can Dance

Recommended Posts

Enter two of my favourite immmortals, Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, a.k.a. Dead Can Dance. Their music is err, weird. For one, it cannot be cathegorized under any exact genre, even Wikipedia agrees on that. If i had to summarize their music by some characteristics, i should say, they sound like a score music for a movie, but a score music you love to listen to after seeing the film.

Why, I love music from a lot of different genres in general (NIN - Static-X - Radiohead - Austrian Death Machine - Score music by either Akira Yamaoka or Jesper Kyd), but this kind of band is the most different from all of my tastes. There's like not 2 of their songs that are similar. It's like they are all in an own style. The songs are the love or hate ones, i say give them a try, and if there is at least one you like, check out the rest of their work, they have plenty. Here's some of my favourites:

One of their most famous songs, The Host of Seraphim, could be heard at the end of Stephen King's The Mist, when they leave the supermarket:

My favourite song from them, Summoning of the Muse:

I love their "tribal sounding" ones, like Bird:

The Carnival Is Over is one happy song, i like it. In this one you can hear Brendan sing too for a variety, he sings in a lot but meh, Lisa is better:

This one is freakin' awesome, it's like a lullaby, and it has a calming effect. Not a lot of songs manage to achieve that on me:

Uh, there's really a few more important ones, i'll give it a try, maybe it lets me post more videos...

Musica Eternal is one damn good song, even though it's a bit silent:

Threshold is the one being the closest to any of the rock genres:

Cantara spanned the most covers, and it did for a reason:

Mother Tongue is again one of their tribal-like ones. I like the drum part in the first half the most:

Chant of the Paladin is one VERY repetitive song, yet i can't switch it when it starts up:

Here's 2 more i'd like to recommend, hope i can post the videos, if not, i'll edit them into links.

The Lotus Eaters

Well, that's all i wanted to post. If you liked their music, or some of it, then i'm glad i'm not the only  one here that does, and if you didn't, you can suck my balls well you heard some weird music that I like. If you liked it though, i say you should try their covers, just google it and listen to it on youtube. JD out.
