Geralt Riv
Why do we play JA, have you ever wondered? What makes us coming back over and over again, until before you know everybody recognises your nickname and you find yourself telling some young soul "I have been playing JA for X years!"... Is it the chat? the crowd? the server? the game itself? After all most of us - no matter the age - play tens of other games each more up to date and with stunning graphics etc. Most of us - no matter the age - have busy lives too, so the time to relax is less and less easy to find. Why are we spending it on THIS server, THIS game? I was wondering myself, and although at first many reasons came to mind, none held the water at closer look. And this very question "why" once implanted in one's conciousness - remains every day, poping up everytime I see the same faces (skins really) talk to the same people, and the new comers too. Why then... What's the reason, and if there was no particular reason - could it be the genius of George Lucas at the bottom of all that? In any case, I will see you later on the server
Zan
Mmm i like JA because its engineered into small maps, worldwide chat, capped player slots where you can just sit down and be cool, unlike other games where you have huge maps (Like WoW), or even if there are small maps you can't just sit down and be cool (Like CS) Simply put is more of a social game, and as a matter of fact better than some of them (Like Second Life for example) because even in huge servers like this (32+ players) you don't feel as lost as in other games. Plus you have mods that almost alters every aspect of the game, like LugorMod or some RPG's mods i seen arround and the best thing is that even in FFA, while in another game its just about killing eachother non-stop, in JA FFA actually gives you the choice of stay put and hang arround with other players or actually join the massacre. At any rate, JA is one hell of a game Bye!
SonicPants
i like JA because it can be just about any type of game you want it to be. with so many mods out there you can just chill out and chat or you can duel it up and fight and to me it has the best of both worlds regardless of the graphics. JA has a unique gameplay experience that you cant really find anywhere else and for me personally, the game is a place to relax and talk with friends about.... well just about anything. So that is pretty much why i keep coming back to play on JA.
Semi
Heh good question Geralt. For me i coming to this server to chat with people to improve my skills and of course to imagine that i in Star Wars Universe. When i was kid i always wanted to become a jedi, had my own lightsaber and fights with bad guys:) But when i grow up my dream comes true JA was the best game in SW universe because of you can build youre own lightsaber, character. And that awesome^_^ And when i discover for myself JA MP i was really happy that i can play with real people like me who loves Star Wars too. I just like that atmosphere people and action. Theos Sairin
well i came back to JA about 2 months ago after not playing in about 2 years... and i find myself doing it cos the clans on JA are more personal, more friend related than the other games out there. sure the graphics are outdated, but i go to the server for the people on it, not the the gameplay aspect. but as far as gameplay goes for most of us, we could have been playing this game for however many years and yet we dont know all we could know about it. theres 3 different default styles, each with different techniques that have been exploited through glitches in the engine and movements, and mods too. basically, i keep coming back cos of the people on the server who i feel more connected to each day, and the skill that can be gained in the techniques, as it offers skill in its techniques in such a different way to other games out there. Mrs.V
Well why do I play JA? To be honest? It's a game that allows you to become someone else for just a moment. A game that doesn't involve tens of thousands of different buttons to control your character. A game that more than one person, no matter the age or skill, can be on top for just a moment. Because of this game, I have been able to meet so many neat people all over the world. Because of this game, I have found myself smiling when I'm somewhere and see the Star Wars logo. Because of this game, I'm able to have somewhere to go online that I know there will be someone willing to challenge or simply talk to. Because of this game...I have met those here at JP and have started to build great friendships. So in my opinion, this game rules!
Dancer
I think there's something powerful about experiencing something for the first time; I remember when I played this game for the first time, and it was truly captivating. It was fun, engaging, and allowed me to make new friends. The reason I keep coming back, is that, those three aspects have never really went away, and I can always find them when I play. I think the game can sustain it's playability because it doesn't offer the exact same game-play experience as before; the people, spontaneous fights that outbreak, duels, and uncontrollable actions of others, account for unexpected fun. This combination keeps the game fresh and leaves me wanting more. The fighting system in the game is challenging, rewarding, and takes some skill to master. Why is piano so fun for me to play? No matter how much I practice, I will never play a piece perfectly; there shall always be a mistake. No matter how much I practice dueling, I will never play perfectly, yet, it is fun to try; to grow, learn and improve. Perhaps, this is to be human. The people who are a part of JP and those who visit our server are interesting to chat with, and I enjoy making friends with them. These two factions of the game keep my attention engaged; I am always trying to optimize my dueling style and capacity for friendship in the server. And it is the reason I play JKA. DeathsAudit
I have a relationship with JA, sometimes we don't agree and we go on a break for a month or even a few months. We always meet up again, and that few weeks of me binging on it is the make up. As has been said by most everyone so far, JA is a unique game in that it's not so single minded. In other FPS games, there is a goal. You have to kill everyone, round after round. If you stop, well you're dead weight and should just stop playing until you're ready to pwn again. On JA, you can come on and pwn a FFA and then take the next map off. Hang out with people from all over the World, or just "people watch" as I like to call it. I keep coming back to JA because I've got such a history with it. In some ways, I don't think it would be false to say that it has shaped my online personality in a lot of ways. My confidence with strangers, how to make friends. All of these great life skills, I've learned while simultaneously wiping the floor with the unfortunate players that have crossed my path in duels/ffa >:] . It's fun, interesting, and while the creators gave up on us YEARS ago, the community is irreplaceable and I lurv it. ~DA

He taught me everything there is to being perverted and made me laugh all the time. All of our opinions were the same on everything. He was my soul mate. He announced his leave to college and his JP server activity got to be N\A. I come back and pester and troll all of you until i see my beloved CC again. Until then, you will get Troll Cousin. :faec:

Nikos
All of that is great. All I have to say to this though is Lucas Arts needs to fuckin' realize all of this plus the fact that their game has lasted for, what is it now, seven years and make an addition to the series. I mean jesus, how many games do you know that last 7 years, with who knows how many more to come after their release?

I quite like what you said there V about the power of becoming someone else - a hero, or even a villan - for a moment. I think its one of my key reasons too. To be able to fly around jump and make all those amazing stunts in this great verse and.. be successful. RL can be much more punishing. But I also subscribe to many things all of you guys have said along this quite popular (to my surprize) thread. I recon video games are the successors of fiction books in that respect. They allow us to make those imagination leaps that provide with a daily dose of relaxation. And once discovered, we tend to instinctively seek pleasure ;-). Thanks for sharing everyone.GR Thanks all for sharing All of that is great. I mean jesus, how many games do you know that last 7 years, with who knows how many more to come after their release? Quite right... can anything be done in this day & age to make them realise? All of you people on facebook, twitters and whatever else - can this be made to a movement? Is LucasArts even tuned to those channels? Come on people, YOU are the internet! Just imagine, just for a moment, the announcement of new JA sequel... The planning we would put in place to move clan over, the pre-ordering of fresh copies (you guys in the US would have to help us worldwide to get a copy in time!), the discovering of new tricks and most of all the return of all who left... because they WOULD be back, hell yeah.
