Fun with Noobs!

Okay... so this happened not long after the server was changed to ClanMod, but no one else was on, so I was there by myself testing various things.

After a while, someone else joins. I was in the middle of something, so I started off completely honest. As the silliness grew I began to play along though and begin catering to their assumptions.

 

Pan renamed to [-Raz^9-]

Jahandar: don't lame

Jahandar: pfft, coming from some random guy, sorry if I'm not insulted

Jahandar: think so?

[-Raz^9-]: you dont no how to put coler in your name

Jahandar: lol

Jahandar: I don't need to try to look cool with colors

Aah yes, the instant solution to no longer being a noob. All you have to do is get a cool name with lots of colors, like -=FireWolaf=- !!

Out of amusement, and also because I was playing with ClanMod, I used to the /scale 200 command and instantly transform into a giant before his eyes. A second later I changed back to normal size.

As if matching my transformation, he instantly transforms from a cocky 1337 jedi uber pro master dude into a typical noob begging for merc.

No more will I let the noobs off easily by showing admin. We now move on to l337 jedi master number 2

But first, there was a brief moment when they were both on the server together, that was just magic.

The two of them communicating in some language I do not understand...

Watch as their brief friendship blossoms then dies.

Now its just me and 1337 Jedi Master Kane. And what does the Jedi Master want to do? Why make a people tower, of course! Considering that we were alone on the server, I'm not sure what he was hoping for. I however at this point would still just rather go back to what I was doing.

He had a strange obsession with wanting to see me bow before the "durl" ...I did not oblige. :)

And yes, I know.. I'm cruel. I beat him 100/100, but its okay, because he very quickly forgot that I know anything about the game, as you'll see.

But for the time being, how could such a great Jedi Master as Kane have been defeated by a white-named noob? kane: cheater

 

aah, of course.

Now watch as his IQ plummets before your very eyes...

Well, now that I know the lingo, I have taken my first steps toward becoming an uber pro jedi master like them!

At this point I mess up. I try to send Eru a /tell so he can join the fun, but I guess ClanMod handles tells somewhat differently, so my tell goes to Kane instead. I thought I was busted, but I underestimated the power of stupidity, and was able to easily recover from my error through diversion. :)

[Jahandar]: leave and come back with an all-white noob name so they don't suspect you :)

I finally manage to get the word out to Eru using tell_target instead

Meanwhile, our master jedi friend has managed to amuse himself with saber burns on the walls. Look out, MENSA.

Kane has a sneaky suspicion that there is a noob on the server!

That would explain my lack of fascination with saber burns on the wall.

Amazing.. I've severely pwned both of them, sent an accidental /tell saying outright that I am toying with them, and was identified as a non-noob bot-runner with admin by a third party, to no effect.

This is for us old timers.

 

Hello, this is Jahandar. Most of you know me and the kind of person I am.

Dekota doesn't want you to read this. When I first posted it, he tried to discredit me by attacking my character and banned me to try to silence the truth. But a funny thing started happening, he realized he was out-numbered in that thread, and that the truth has a way of ringing clear. As Commander Cool said, "Jahandar has nailed it again. This was the reason why most left, but they couldn't find the right words to say it." As more people began defending me and supporting my comments, Dek decided he'd better just delete the entire thread altogether before the word spread out even more.

Unfortunately for Dekota, the internet doesn't work like that. Fortunately for me, I keep backup copies of my posts. Dekota has no control over this corner of the web, I do. I will ensure that what I have to say will be heard by anyone with an open mind willing to listen to the truth.

I waited a few days before making my decision. I wanted to see what sort of effect this would have on JoH, and how this would be handled. This would have been a great opportunity to exhibit one's leadership skills, but instead I'm disappointed to see the focus is almost entirely on blaming others.

It is foolish to think all of this was caused by one person, yet there hasn't even been an acknowledgement that other factors might have had a role in this, let alone an attempt to resolve them. The silence speaks volumes.

Now I suppose its time for Dek to come along and say I'm just "talking out of my arse". Funny, the last time he said that was when he first returned and I was expressing concern that something like this would happen.

Dekota, you need to get your act together if you plan to have success as a clan leader. And don't give me this crap about how you made JoH what it is, I've heard it before. The evidence clearly shows that JoH has done well in spite of you, not because of you.

You forgot what the H in JoH stands for.

This includes respecting people's opinions and being open to constructive criticism. I know you claim to encourage everyone to voice their opinions, but your actions speak louder than your words: You have threatened to demote and kick people out of the clan for simply voicing their opinions and concerns.

This includes your conduct when admining the server. When you're an admin you should be fair. Treat guests on the servers as you would treat guests in your home. If someone breaks a rule, deal with it in a mature fashion. Banning should only be used as a last resort or in special cases like attacks against the server.

When dealing with other clans, allied or otherwise, you need to show respect for them and their way of doing things. Do not tell them how to run their clan (hell, you're having enough trouble with your own). If you have a problem with a clan, you talk it out with their leader in private and keep it civil. Do not suggest hacking their server (though I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were just "talking out of your arse" that night).

At all times you need to conduct yourself appropriately and set good examples for clan members, guests on the server, and people from other clans. Do not engage in name calling, insults, patronizing, physical threats ("if i ever see you in person its your ass"), etc. even if the other person doesn't show you the same respect in return.

Remember that JoH is primarily a social clan. When you get down to it, we were just a group of friends playing a video game. Don't try to make this into something its not, and don't try to elevate yourself into something you're not.

 

After this post, there were some nice farewell comments by those who read it (much appreciated). Then Dekota replied with a pathetic attempt to attack my character. I cannot quote his post as I didn't back that up, but anyone who read it can vouch (even Dek could for that matter, if he stands by his words), that he said I showed no honor or loyalty during my time in JoH, that I had no right to tell him how to be an admin because I blatantly ignore lamers every time I'm on the server, and that I was against him and his wife since they first returned.

My reply was as follows:

Thank you for proving my point. Even now you refuse to acknowledge any fault on your part. After all, its more important to attack those who disagree with you than to actually consider addressing the problem.

1. I have never ignored a laming problem after I was made aware of it, and I defy anyone to present proof to the contrary of even one time that I willingly ignored lamers, let alone "every time" I was on the server. I guess it shouldn't suprise me that you would start making up stuff.

2. I have shown nothing but loyalty to JoH while I was a member, and I have always showed honor. Your problem is that I didn't show automatic loyalty to you without first determining how your return would effect the clan. Obviously, my concerns were well founded.

Ever notice that everytime you show up things go sour? Two weeks ago we had a loyal member base, a great server, and strong alliances. Then you showed up and destroyed it all again.

But wait, Dek wants you all to know that he's "not the bad guy." It's always someone else's fault.

 

Following this there were some more farewell comments and words of support. In a particularly entertaining side-story, pjgirl quoted one line from my first post ("I'm disappointed to see the focus is almost entirely on blaming others."), and offered a wink. Dekota then made a big fool of himself by snapping back at her, saying "the smiley looks alot like flaming pjgirl id sugest it stops...", much to the amusement of all who read it.

Anyway, this was followed by some really nice posts that meant a lot to me, and I sincerely thank you guys. Yoss defended my loyalty to the clan and Commander Cool said what I quoted above. About this time Dekota decided the situation was hopeless, he didn't have facts on his side to prove me wrong, nobody was buying his pathetic attempt to make me look bad, and to top it off, he had embarrased himself by yelling at pjgirl over a smiley, all the while people continued to voice their support. Some in the forum, some via MSN.

Obviously, he couldn't let this go on. He has a clan to control, and if more people found out the truth, they might start to question his qualities not only as a leader, but a person. So, he deleted the entire thread, banned another fake IP, and closed my account.

But I'm just too stubborn to let it end that way, and I've dealt with plenty bigger fish than Dek. So here it is, for public display, and its not going anywhere. If you chose not to agree with me, that's fine. All I wanted was the chance to speak my peace.

As I said when I left, I have one bit of advice those still in JoH. More important than being loyal to your clan, is being loyal to what that clan stood for. If you come to realize that those principles are being undercut by the very leader who is supposed to uphold them, you should ask yourself if this is really the same clan that you once pledged your loyalty to. Again, I thank those of you (some JoH, some former JoH, some outsiders) who have expressed your support. Also, as I suspect I'll be banned on sight at the new JoH server as well, I'll look forward to having fun with you guys on the JLF and JSU servers.

Read that "first chat with Dekota", Dek is SEVERELY similar to an old clan of mine's leader (we'll call him Smokey) whom also had/caused power problems. One of the co-leaders threatened to ban me for using amtele to stop him from laming me (telefragged = much rage), so I left RGD. Then Smokey decided he would threaten me with a ban for being a "pissant", of which got his ass chewed out by my good friends who were still in the clan. After that I started playing at JP! :D I also heard he ended up being booted from HIS clan for being an "emo fag".
