An outsiders suggestion

Greetings JP members , I come to you with a suggestion of a creation of an RP Community. It is not a clan or anything similar to it , and everyone is welcome to join no matter of their affiliation of any clan or sect. I do not wish to " steal " your members away from you , but offer them refuge and some r n´ r when they are not in their respective servers/locations.

 

The original concept of the idea would be forming around the Ancient Chinese era. Then from that concept , the details will follow. Since this is just a seed of my mind , I am still trying to find members for this creation to become a fruition.

 

The RP community will circle around philosophy , chinese swordsmanship martial arts , pondering etc. The whole nine yards.

 

I seek skilled members that know their way around the following : Skinning/modeling , mapping , photoshop , scripting.

 

And of course regular players that wish to just play there.

 

So , pass along your opinions , and if there are any that are willing to join my cause , please don´t hesitate to say it.

Okay, I'll start with the most obvious thing here... While your intention is simply creating a place for people to get some "r n' r," it DOES "steal" members away. Only a server directly relating to the clan will involve our traffic (be that members or non-members), and hence a server run by you would make it your traffic. Of course this isn't as applicable in tournaments, clan wars etc. where concentrated traffic on another clan's server would serve a specific purpose to both the clans, HOWEVER that time is brief. What you are asking is for people to regularly attend your server. I have no issue, and I don't think anyone else does, if people were to go to your server and spend more time there, BUT the issue is that you are advertising it here first... I don't speak for the JP clan of course, simply myself, but I would class this as an advertisement.

Now while you say that they could spend their spare time there... To be honest spare gaming time is generally what brings people to our server in the first place. There are better games out there (argue that point if you want) and most importantly people have real life to attend to, which takes up the majority of people's time and patience. What little time people do have to play Jedi Academy is what attributes to our traffic (both members and non-members), and to ask people to participate in the creation of a role playing community in Jedi Academy is to ask them to take their game time away from our server and into your own. I think I've made that point pretty strong now, so I'll move on...

 

Role playing communities in Jedi Academy. Always had great potential, of course, however with one huge flaw. People lose interest. Clans work because people can lose interest and leave, but there will be people to fill the holes, easily. With role playing communities, people play roles in a "society", and once gone it is much harder to fill those roles, or to fill stories, or to fill... anything. ESPECIALLY with minimal activity. The reason why pretty much every role playing community in JA has been stand alone is because it takes a dedicated group of people with a lot of time to run it. Trying to create a role playing community with people simply putting in spare time means there is no great activity, meaning it is harder to maintain a role-playing scenario, meaning people lose interest, meaning it dies out. Simply put - I don't think the intentions you have for the community - be that order, activity etc - are realistic given the game's current activity and numbers. Narrow that down to something like the Ancient Chinese era and you'll have a SEVERE disinterest from the current gamers of Jedi Academy. In short, bad idea.

 

I know this may sound pretty brutal laid out like this, but it could have been worse - it could have been DS going into more detail than he did.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do want you to know, that however the previous posts have sounded, we are not trying to chastise you (at least i'm not). It's simply a lack of interest (more like differing interests) from the majority of us. Good luck on the RP mod/server, and i personally don't see this as stealing traffic at all, it was a perfectly tame suggestion and idea (looking at you theos public/style_emoticons/default/shiftyninja.gif), we are just simply declining. Sorry if you've taken any offense from the less-than-passive replies, there was none intended and we apologize if there was.

 

Lastly, i may be misleading in speaking in 'we' terms, because i don't have the authority or consensus to speak for our clan as a whole or other forum members, but this is just how i feel. Have a nice day.

Precisely what he said, RP isn't a bad thing and I find it interesting that you'd want to try that. The time and effort it would take to get it working however would be the your limiting factor. Mainly because mapping/scripting/modeling/skinning is a time consuming process. Other than that, please ignore jackass comments, made by jackasses.
