I use FL Studio 9 to create piano / drum sounds. I then export the FL File as an mp3 and load it all into Adobe Audition 3 where I will then record guitar / bass through a Line 6 POD. Sometimes I use Cubase 5 SE, but it's annoying to use so I generally stick to Adobe Audition 3.

I have Audtion 3.0 as well, and Cubase 5 XD thing is, laptop sound card is shit, so Audtion is near impossible to get working without latency issues (even with reducing the buffer size) and Cubase just doesn't work with the sound card full stop... -.-

I know ya got a Line 5 POD, but take a gander at Native Instrument's Guitar Rig 4, I downloaded it, and though obviously I dont have the pedal board to save the effects to switch and stuff (which is used for live set ups) I still got every effect and shit, and it's awesome =D makes my rubbish guitar sound epic.

I've tried NI's Guitar Rig, it's very similar to Line 6's POD farm only it has a bit more latency and less tone availability. It's great for what it does though, but I think Line 6 POD Farm is better.

Yeah, this laptop runs surprisingly well with its sound card, so I've not had any trouble with latency other than with POD Farm I had to max the buffer size for whatever reason. Hardly made a difference though.

Ah see I've never used a POD before so I have no idea what it's like... if you could use the POD with Guitar Rig imagine what amazing sounds you could create?! Or maybe that's just in my head... -.-

I want your laptop then. I've got great RAM to run the programs efficiently, and good Hard Drive space to store all the countless number of programs, but my Sound Card doesn't let me use half of the stuff I've got...

First chance I get I'm buying a Mac -.-

POD + Guitar Rig sounds like standard POD Farm (POD Farm without purchased amp models) with a bit of delay between the pick and the sound. More or less using a POD Farm with Guitar Rig just isn't a great idea, POD Farm has zero latency and way more tones, effects, etc. I love it. If you're not aware, POD Farm is like Line 6's guitar rig.

See, while recording is when I get most of my problems, but when just playing through Guitar Rig, I get zero latency =D im just lucky that way, but i still have to record via another laptop... Worth it though considering I don't have to spend a penny.

I might look into buying a POD later on then, though I should probably buy a better guitar first (really... it's the worst guitar in the world XD)

Anyway... DO MORE BFMV COVERS!

Yeah, what guitar do you have? I am deeply in love with my guitar, it is so beautiful. Whatever works :p

A line 6 POD Studio UX2 costs around 150 - 200 dollars, it's what I use and it's actually a lower grade on the POD Scale. If you want something fucking beastly, get a Line 6 POD X3 Live. Studio quality sounding shit, it's beautiful. Costs around 800 - 900 dollars. But you're a Brit, so I guess...pounds? Euros? No clue. But I really recommend Line 6 POD for recording, it's really great.

I'd definitely do more BFMV covers but they're too fast for me sometimes. I'd just been playing that song on and off for two years, only reason I can play it. Their solos have a tendency to be epic, and I can't be bothered to learn epic solos even though I can probably play them if I worked on them (Which is why I haven't been progressing >>)

It's some crappy £50 les paul copy =P rubbish everything, and half the dials don't work -.- good clean sound, but horrible when distorted.

Erm a quick search for your one averages at about £130-£150 (yup pounds =P fuck Euro), the other one averages out to around £350-£400... so yeah they're both a bit ouch price wise, but then a Mac would cost me between £1,000-£2,000 so not so bad when compared XD

Hmm back when I played Eletric properly (I'm mainly a keyboard/piano player, so most the time I just play Acoustic Guitar if I play at all) I learnt the whole of "The Poison" album, some parts can be mental, others quite easy... Try Her Voice Resides, it's fairly simple for the most part... Hit The Floor is REALLY easy to play, Room 409 is good if ya got ya picking down, The Poison isn't exactly easy but it's fun when you can play it, same as Cries In Vain...

In fact the last hardest song I learnt on Electric Guitar before basically putting it down was Waking The Demon... that's a monster of a song for me to play, it's all downstroke picking for the riff, and I can't play it for shit now =P

I mean the gist of their songs are rather easy, it's just when I cover a song, I like doing the entire thing, solo and all. And if the solo is too much for me, I tend to not want to record it. Rm 409 is pretty easy if I recall, I just haven't covered it. Tears Don't Fall is pretty easy other than the solo and that fucking fast part before the solo.

Tear's Don't Fall solo is kinda weird... it's near impossible to cover exactly, you can get the feel of it and the frets right, but the way it's played is very off-the-cuff... I find anyway.

But yeah, the solo for Waking the Demon is all downpicked which is why I find it so incredibly hard... Since that song I just gave up, I decided I was the best I was every gonna be so what's the point -.- concentrated more on the keyboard/piano which I am really good at and always getting better =D

Well let me know if you put more up on there ;)

Yeah, I'm still working on making a realistic drum sound with this program, it's real fucking hard. I've been trying to make the snare stick out, but not be too loud. But shutting up the crash / hi-hat without making it fall in with the other instruments is hard. So we'll see how that goes.

Most of the time trying to make realistic sounding drums is hard work... You'd think that more realistic sounds would help, but really not... Have you got any reverb on the drums? Cos if you do, I suggest making the snare and hi-hat with a small amount of reverb, the toms a tiny bit more reverb (putting a reoccuring bass note VERY quietly every time the tom's are hit fills out the sound a little bit more, make sure its the same note, try the note of the key, very low down), the kick drum no reverb or a tiny bit, and the crashes still not a huge amount, but more than the rest, then you can turn the crashes down and still have it fill out, while the rest of the tones fill out nicely... Other than that it's just levels throughout and tone that matters.

I put a decent amount of reverb on the snare drums, but that's really it. I put tiny amounts on everything else. Another way I could probably make them sound more realistic is changing the sustain on crash / hi-hats so it doesn't make the same exact sound each time. This not happening is a result of my laziness. I use the default tone for the drums, so I'm sure if I messed with it I could make them sound better and more realistic, I suppose I'll do that next time. We'll see how that turns out.
