TheFredz
hey I took some pics of my Chilean rose hair tarantula for another forum and i thought i would share em with you guys . Its name his Artax. It is believed to be a sub-adult Male but its very hard to tell the sex of most tarantula unless you look at the inside of his old exoskeleton after it has molted. Artax is about 4" and Chilean rose hair can get to 5-6" once its fully mature. Most new world terrestrial tarantula species are piss easy to take care of. Just change the water every other day and put 3-4 crickets in the cage every other week. anyway here are some pics: http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/6905/79956066.jpghttp://img704.imageshack.us/img704/9752/50271593.jpghttp://img291.imageshack.us/img291/4849/99063636.jpghttp://img801.imageshack.us/img801/8176/60955374.jpghttp://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1272/56363251.jpg I'm getting 3 or so spiderlings of other species of tarantulas in a couple of days and i will post some pics when i get em. they're going to be tiny babies tho. TheFredz
well the Chilean rose hair is considered in the hobby of tarantula keeping as a Docile specie if not the most docile of the tarantula out there. So yeah you can manipulate them no problem if they feel like it. but handling tarantula is not really recommended as it may cause them a lot of stress and is somewhat frowned upon by some keepers. the tarantula will tolerate being manipulated but prefer to be left alone. also tarantulas are very delicate creatures and can easily get hurt or die if it fall when manipulated. A tarantula will let you know if it feel threaten and will generally not bite unless you keep bugging it. If a tarantula feel threaten or want you to leave it alone it will raise itself on his back legs. This should be your queue to leave it alone. If you keep bugging it the spider will then throw urticating hairs from his abdomen at you to drive the threat away. These hairs aren't really dangerous but can cause small rashes on the skin and could be a bit more problematic if you got em in the eyes or in your mouth and nose. If you persist trying to pick up or bug the tarantula after it throw hairs at you it might resort to biting but more than often a tarantula will resort to fleeing and hiding in his burrow. Most Tarantulas are also quite slow and this specie in particular is very slow so even if it would try to bite me you would have most likely plenty of time to react and get your hand out of there :D A tarantula bite is venomous but the venom is not much of a threat to humans much like a bee or wasp venom. It will hurt but won't pose any real danger to human unless of a really bad allergic reaction to the venom. The old world species pack a somewhat stronger venom that can cause quite a bit of discomfort. Some species of tarantula are more defensive than others and are more or less considered "manipulable" by the tarantula enthusiast depending on species. Old world Tarantulas are considered more defensive and won't throw hairs to warn you that they feel threaten. for this reason Old world Tarantulas are not recommended for the beginners. as for mine It's quite docile I can touch it with no problem but don't really handle it anyway. If i want it to move I touch the rear legs or the back of the abdomen gently and it will move forward a bit so if you put your hand in front of it and touch his legs he will climb on the hand and i could pick it up. My tarantula never shown any sign of feeling threaten yet. When I took the pics I bothered her quite a bit by forcing it to move around quite a lot trying to get good angles and all. it never got aggressive at all and never stood on his back legs or thrown hairs yet. so yeah I picked it up a few times and I can touch it no prob but i try not to bother it so i don't cause it stress or hurt it by accident. yay for wall of text :faec:

Metal
I've seen videos on youtube of these, some girl was playing with it in her hands as if it was a Ferret. I personally think they are awesome and that you raise him the way you do. He's awesome, I would totally get one some time down the road, I used to have a fear of spiders but i'm slowly getting over it. So that's definitely cool man.
